Task 6: Viewing documents Hotlinked to maps

HotLinks

Use Hotlinks from the Main Toolbar to see the document that a particular feature is based on, such as the original 'asbuilts' or easement documents. The tool is also called a Hotlink If available, HotLinks display additional documents related to features. For example, the Hotlink may be to as-built drawings, easement documents, atlas book pages, etc. as it links you directly from the map to the original document.
Note: If you have the Hotlink Manager among the Service Specific Tools on the Advanced Toolbar, you can see which Hotlink documents are available and which features they are linked to.

Find the feature visually using the zoom and pan tools in the main window, or search for it with a search or a query, zooming in on the feature you find. Then just click The Hotlink button to view the document, like this one.

In the document viewer, you can rotate the document, zoom, annotate and print the document.

Try it out!

  1. Zoom in and pan to be able to see the feature clearly in the map. If necessary, search for it with a Query.

  2. Turn on the layer with the feature you want to study, and turn off most of the other layers to make it easier to select a single feature.

  3. Click the Hotlinks button.

  4. Click the link to the document in the list in the Right Pane.

  1. Your default Image Viewer opens with the original map.

  1. Hold the cursor over the tools in the viewer to view the tooltips that tell how to use them. You should be able to rotate the image, zoom in, save and print it. Other features may let you annotate the map in various ways.
