Tutorial
When you log on to GeoViewer Online, you see the home page, with your map in the main map window.
Note: The links on this page take you to the topics in the Tutorial or the Reference section that describe each item in more detail.
Map Screen
In the center of the screen is the map screen. You learn to change the view of the maps in Task 2.
Down the left side is the Main Toolbar with the tools you use most.
This can be supplemented
with the Advanced Toolbar at the bottom

On the right is a pane with several tabs at the top.
The Search tab, where you can search using APN, Latitude/ Longitude, X & Y coordinates, and Street Intersection. Some services have even more options.
The Query tab, where you can search using SQL Structured Query Language A standard computer language for accessing and manipulating databases. (See "Query" and "Table".) queries on GIS data to find relevant database records.
The Buffer tab, to select features around a particular location or feature.
The Results tab for data Specific information about a layer or feature. The contents of the fields in a database table. (See "table"). Data can usually be exported to a spreadsheet. results from various tasks and forms to select features A piece of information that can be displayed on the map such as a parcel number,fire hydrant, or aerial photograph. Each individual feature is represented by a row in a query table. (See "table") for several tools.
The Layers tab shows all possible layers A group of features that you can view on a map, such as parcels, water mains and street names. available for the displayed map, which vary from service A set of map data. to service.
At the bottom is the Scale indicator, which you can also use to select the scale The map scale shows the magnification of the map, showing the relative size. The lower the number, the more detailed and "zoomed-in".
Try it out!
Go to GeoViewer and identify all the areas shown below. Hover your cursor over the image map A link from a particular area of an image. Most images of toolbars and menus in this Online Help link to the topic and show a tooltip about the link. links to read tooltips A little yellow box that appears when you hold the cursor over a button, which tells you what the button is for. On the main toolbars most tools are identified with text, but tooltips are very useful in tools like the Image Viewer., and click the links to read more. You will read more about them in the next sections.
