You use a Search from the Right Pane if you know more specifics about the parcels you want to select. You can search using APN, Latitude/ Longitude, X & Y coordinates, and Street Intersection. Some services have even more options.

Try it out!
Activate
the layers you want to use for the selection. Note that these layers have
different names for different services A set of map data..
Select what you want to search by from the drop-down list. (This varies according to your service.) The screen changes, providing boxes to enter the appropriate data, as in the example to the right.

Click Get Samples to see all of the possible data to enter.
Enter the required data by either
clicking the link in the Select Sample column on the left in the Sample Set of Data box to fill the form automatically,
or entering valid data directly. This can be partial data, such as part of the street name or one of the materials.
Click Search.

Click a linked entry from the list. The result is shown with crosshairs + on the map.
Click Show All Records to see all of them on the map.

Clear the search records with the Clear Records button.

entered gave one result, with a score of 69, since it wasn't entered precisely.
By APN brings up several numbers related to the first, in case you do not know the APN exactly. These are also scored by how close they are to the one you entered.
