This section contains a few frequently asked questions about using the GeoViewer Online.

HotLinks  Layers  Queries  Search

  1. When I am using a tool, it seems that the program is not reacting. How do I know what is happening?

  1. You are working with a lot of information. Usually the Processing banner appears to show that something is happening. You can also check to see if there are green loading lines in the task bar at the bottom of the screen.

  1. The response time seems very slow. How can I speed it up?

  1. Turn on only the layers you need to view. Having extra layers (particularly layers with a lot of information, such as aerials) turned on slows down your internet speed.

 Hotlink

  1. Why doesn't the Hotlink tool work?

  1. Check the Hotlink Manager (if it is implemented for your service) from the Service Specific Tools on the Advanced Toolbar to see which layers and features have the Hotlink linked to them.

Layers

  1. I turned on the street names layer but none are visible.

  1. Only the layers marked in red in the Layer list are visible when you are zoomed way out. Use the navigation tools to zoom in closer. If street names still are not visible, you may be viewing an area of the map outside of the city limits. Use the Overview Map to see where you are.

Queries

  1. Can I stop a query Criteria for selecting features or layers on a map using the SQL language. after I click Run if it turns out to be too large?

  1. No. Clicking the Stop button in your browser appears to stop the query, but it is still running in the background.

  1. Why can't I see the Statistics?

  1. You probably have a pop-up blocker on. Make sure that all your blockers accept  http://www.geovieweronline.net/.

Search

  1. I see the name of a street on the map in the main window. Why can't the search tool find the record?

  1. Even though the street is on the map in the main window, it may not be within the city boundary. Turn on the Overview Map to see where you are related to the city boundary.
